How to Start a Blog Business With No Experience

Most people love to talk about things they are passionate about doing or are interested in discussing certain topics. They love to tell stories. In this article, I’ll tell you how to start your own blog business with no experience and make money doing what you enjoy doing.

First, I just want to say if you are here and feeling like you are not a great writer, I have good news for you because you don’t need to be an established writer.

If you are already an established writer, you are also at the right place.

If you have no idea how to get a blog business up and running successfully in the internet world, no worries.  A few years back I had absolutely no idea how to start a business and make money online plus I considered myself a poor ‘writer’ with fears of people not liking my writing skills.

If you doubt yourself and don’t think you can be a blogger, then answer these questions. Do you talk to your friends and family? What about when you go to the store, do you talk to merchants? If you can make conversation, you can be bloggers.

The truth is, you don’t have to be a ‘professional or established’ writer because all you are doing is putting your thoughts into your own style of writing. You are simply having a conversation with your readers.

This is what I am doing now and I am blogging to you.

You might be wondering about your spelling and pronunciation. My writing is nowhere near perfect but I use a free writing tool like Grammarly to help me make corrections and you can do that too.

I should warn you… the thing about blogging is once you get going on it, you will be addicted to it. You will find blogging to be a lot of fun because you can write and share to your audience the things you are passionate about, like your hobbies, sports or interests PLUS you can make money on it.

How I Make Money Blogging

The way I start is to find a topic that my audience will be interested in reading, something I know I can help them with and am passionate about talking. The topic and my audience are my niche and so it’s much easier to write about something I know I have authority over. This way I can express my opinions and my audience will trust me.

I make money when I promote relevant and helpful products on my blog without carrying any inventory. These products are already available on the internet. I travel and I can still look after my business anywhere in the world with no inventory. 

To promote relevant products, I join free affiliate programs and partner with brand name merchant owners who promote their products on the internet. Their programs allow me access to use their promotional ads and product images which I put into my blog.

Take, for example, Amazon has an affiliate program called Amazon Associates and all I do is write reviews of merchant products. When my audience comes to my site, reads a review and clicks on an affiliate product link, it takes them thru to Amazon’s site and if they make the purchase, I make the commission.

There are affiliate programs in pretty much all industries.

For example, try entering in the search engine something you are passionate about doing:

“Your niche+ affiliate” so it would “volleyball+ affiliate” and you will see affiliate programs for volleyball. When you see an affiliate program you are interested in, click thru to the affiliate site and look for their commission structure.

In order to make this all work, there are two ingredients you must have.. a computer and internet which I know you already have otherwise you would not be here.

There are many ways to make money online but affiliate marketing in my opinion, is the most lucrative method and pretty much all major brand companies have affiliate programs.

To get started, you will need to do the following:

1. Understand the Money Making Process.

 

How will you make money? Most people jump into selling the latest and trendy products and services without having the slightest idea of how affiliate marketing works. This method is doomed to fail.

Let me briefly explain the affiliate marketing cycle.

Your Audience: It starts with your audience who has a need and they look for information by entering words into search engines like Google, Bing or Yahoo. They might even do searches on social media or on emails. 

Your Website (see below): Your website is the foundation of your business and all your written blogs reside in it. The more quality content you write, your site will get ranked higher by search engines which will attract more traffic. Your website is where you promote your affiliate products and services.

Customer Purchases: When your audience comes to your site and if they like what they read and understand how you can help them, they will click on your affiliate link and make the purchase.

You Make Money:  Your audience makes the purchase, you get the commission.

Hold on, you’re not done yet.

Before you make money, you need to create your niche website. Without a website and no content, you won’t get any traffic so this means the money isn’t going to happen.

You can make lots of money with affiliate marketing because you have no inventory to carry. The way to do this is build a solid foundation of your website. You must brand it and make it your own.

NOW COMES THE EXCITING PART!

Did you know there are over 4 billion people going online according to Statista.com. These are people going online to look for information, products, and services that will help them. If they find what they are looking for they will make the purchase.

This is where you come into play with your website. You will be writing relevant blogs to help your audience (niche) with useful information promoting relevant products and/or services that will solve their problems and at the same time make money in the process.

 STEP 1: It Begins With a Niche – Choose Your Direction.

Your niche is the specific audience you want to target your blogs to.

Find something you are passionate about and can’t stop talking about it or maybe it’s something you have always been interested in learning. Once you learn it, you are an authority on it and will feel comfortable writing blogs. Also, don’t stress yourself on choosing a niche because there is no such thing as a wrong niche.

Here is what you will be doing with the niche:

• You will be writing conversational blogs within your niche.
• You will be providing your audience with helpful information within your niche.
• You will be promoting niche products.

STEP 2:  Build a WordPress Website.

You might be thinking .. “wait a minute, this sounds like a lot of work and I’m no computer geek”.

Some people will say you don’t need a website, but in my opinion, if you want to look professional, you need to have a website. You need to brand yourself and your site. Not only that, you will need to have a website when applying to join affiliate programs.

From this point on, it’s important to think of your website as a business and I will be upfront with you here… running a business is HARD WORK. If you ask any successful online entrepreneur what they did, they will always tell you it’s hard work.

BUT I CAN TELL YOU, IT’S ALSO A LOT OF FUN AND YOU WILL FEEL PROUD TO TELL EVERYONE YOU HAVE YOUR OWN ONLINE BUSINESS.

STEP 3: Attract Visitors.

The main objective is to get traffic coming to your site and there are lots of ways to get free traffic. You write blogs to give helpful information and useful products and of course make money. 

I always like to think of my site as a storefront to the world and it’s my blog content that connects my audience who is my traffic. If you can write content in a conversational manner and understand how to choose particular keywords (the search terms of your audience for search engines like Google, Yahoo, and Bing), you can have a very prosperous online blog business.

This is how you have the opportunity to generate revenue. There are other marketing methods you can do to bring traffic in but I believe quality blog content with relevant images is the most effective way.

STEP 4: Making the Revenue

Your site has quality blog content and bringing traffic, you now have the opportunity to earn revenue.

The next step is to take action on initiating the process. For this, I suggest finding an affiliate training blog platform.

Don’t waste your valuable time trying to set up your online business without help. If you are focusing on promoting products and services through an affiliate program(s) it makes sense to get the right training from an affiliate training platform.

When you apply with brand name organizations, they will want you to have traffic already coming to your website. They will ask you for your website name, description and other information so they can decide if they want you to join and partner with them. Once approved you are given access to their promotional ads and affiliate links to put on your blog.  

When choosing the training platform, look for a place that has transparency where you can see lots of members asking questions and people helping others. The community should have a good mixture of newbies to the intermediates and the very well established bloggers. Look for support and how the training is done, in other words, are there live webinars that can be played back, are there videos with written step by step instructions?
